About
The Colonial
The Colonial Golf Club represents a true collaboration of spirit
and effort, blending together the distinctive characteristic qualities
intrinsic to a successful golf course project. It combines the natural
features of a truly unique piece with architectural vision, excruciating
attention to details, extensive planning, and a commitment to excellence.
From its conception in 1991 through today, Francis Fenderson, President of The Colonial Golf Club, Inc. allowed it to remain unencumbered with development.
Golf Course Architect, Lester George designed the course. Early
in the design process, George enlisted the assistance of PGA Touring
Professional Robert Wrenn as design consultant. With their experience
and expertise combined, George and Wrenn were able to deliver a
course that is not only beautiful and challenging, but one that
also has the flexibility to be played from multiple sets of tees,
making it negotiable and fun for all.
The Colonial has received significant recognition from national publications, including a Golf Digest "Top 10 Virginia Course" ranking, a "Top 10 New Courses in the US" salute from Golf Magazine and a "#2 Course in Virginia" from the Virginia Fairways magazine.
The Colonial Golf Club was also Williamsburg's first daily-fee
facility and offers the only year-round golf academy in the state
of Virginia. Featured are a large grass-teed practice range, an
indoor teaching facility with video analysis, and a practice course
with 3 regulation length holes (a par 3, 4, and 5).
